I previous owned Cub Cadet 7000 series tractor that I used to run my log splitter. I now own a New Holland TC40D. My question is, is there any risk in mixing the hydraulic fluid that is left in the log splitter (Cub Cadet Fluid) cylinder with the hydraulic fluid that is in the NH? Any thoughts would be appreciated. BTW Its too late for me to turn back as I used the splitter before the thought crossed my mind.

Mark, I wouldn't worry about it. While the tractor manufacturers "recommend" specific brands of hydraulic oil, most of the oils are compatible, and compared to the amount in the tractor, that's a relatively small amount in the implement. ....

I'm with Bird. TX/Hyd fluid is pretty universal stuff. I think of it as coming in standard, multi-season and synthetic types. Well, NH F200 oil I sometimes use was described as a semi-synthetic--everything seems to be mix and match these days. I've been using ARCO multi-season in my gear TX Ford for several years since the ARCO dealer is about half the distance as my NH dealer and oil can't be couriered--'course I can't recommend anybody else do that.
Some older tractors used gear oil, which wouldn't mix (I still can't believe that stuff actually pumps when it's cold), and I'd hesitate to mix synthetic with petro oil. Actually, I'd hesitate only to ask advice here. I'm not sure, but there used to be some compatibility problems with old types of synthetic engine oils. I'm not aware of any problems with current synthetic hydraulic oils, but I'd ask anyway. I don't imagine the Cub was using either gear or synthetic oil.

Dang, I meant AGCO, the tractor company and not ARCO, the oil company. It's a mistake I’ve made before. Maybe I'm still reacting to my time in the military and public service by instinctively getting acronyms wrong. ....

People get fluids mixed like that all the time and I've never heard of it being a problem. ....
